Carpet stained with paint
No matter careful you try to be, things like pet accidents, juice, and mud somehow end up on your carpet causing troublesome and tricky stains. Often times these stains seem almost impossible to remove. So what can be done when these tough stains occur?
The good news is, there are specific methods for treating different types of stains on your carpet. Here are some proven tips from the carpet cleaning pros at Chem-Dry.

Treating Water-Soluble Carpet Stains

Water-soluble stains consist of things like latex paint, washable ink, vomit, blood, chocolate, berries, or drinks. A simple cleaning solution typically works well to remove these types of stains.
If you have a water-soluble stain on your carpet then give this solution a try! Mix 1 tablespoon ammonia with 1 cup of water, or ¼ teaspoon of white vinegar with 32 ounces of water. This solution may actually damage your wool or wool-blend carpet, however, so try using a mild detergent with warm water if your carpet is made of wool.

Treating Wax And Oily Carpet Stains

Temperature can be the key to removing these stains. Try placing ice on top of wax, gum, or similar substances on your carpet. Once the substance is nice and cold try to pick it out with a blunt knife. You can also try using some heat by covering the stain with a paper towel then ironing over it on a warm setting. Lightly cover the area with rubbing alcohol for glue spilled on carpet, then wipe it away gently. For nail polish, use a rag dipped in a small amount of nail polish remover. Just test an area of your carpet first to make sure it doesn’t discolor the fibers.

Treating Pet Urine And Odors On Carpet

This is the big one because not only is the stain ugly, it is also really smelly and can be damaging your health. To treat it, try absorbing as much of the stain as possible with a towel and apply a homemade or store-bought cleaning solution to remove the stain. Remember that for pet stains and their associated odor and bacteria to be removed completely, you’ll need a professional pet urine and odor removal treatment at least once each year.
